OSIM 2007 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup Returns on September 23 and 30 at Plover Cove




 

OSIM, a global leader in health and lifestyle products, today announced the details of the OSIM 2007 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup at a press conference at Commercial Radio 2. The OSIM 2007 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup will be held over consecutive Sundays on 23 and 30 September at Plover Cove, Tai Po.

The arrangement on consecutive Sundays is aimed at providing more opportunities for participants from different age groups and teams to watch and participate in the event, as well as enhancing their preparation from observing world class athleteson the first Race Day. Organized by the Hong Kong Triathlon Association (HKTriA), co-organized by Enterprise Sports Group (ESG), and sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) and Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC), the OSIM 2007 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup is the signature annual triathlon event in Hong Kong.

In attendance at the press conference were Jenny Yip, Marketing Manager of OSIM; Tiger Choy, President of the Hong Kong Triathlon Association; Ms Sanny Yeung, Senior Leisure Manager (Sports Funding) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; and Ms Jessica Ho, Channel Manager of Commercial Radio 2. Other attending guests included Wan Shu Wah, Assistant National Coach and Hong Kong Triathletes Tania Mak, Vincci Hui and Chan Chun Lung.

This year’s prize purse is USD25,000 and the winning athletes will also gain world ranking points as confirmed by Tiger Choy, President of the Hong Kong Triathlon Association who today thanked OSIM for its second consecutive year of title sponsorship for the Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup. 

Choy said “OSIM is a great benefactor of triathlon sport in Asia. Last year, with the support of OSIM, the Hong Kong Triathlon attracted a big crowd of spectators and set a new event record for participation. We are confident that our second year of collaboration with OSIM will further promote the sport of triathlon in Hong Kong and help more

people experience the inspiration and excitement of this sport.” Mr Choy also acknowledges the other sponsors, New Balance, Bonaqua, Bon Active and the new sponsor Oakley.

Tania Mak, currently ranked number 103 in the world and Hong Kong’s Female Olympic Distance athlete shared her excitement about this year’s Asian Triathlon, saying ”I have great expectation for my performance and have already set my target as improving my performance to help qualify for the Olympics.”

Local celebrities Eric Suen, Kenny Kwan and Kary Ng and Commercial Radio 2 program host Leo Jim joined the Hong Kong Triathletes in a mini-Triathlon challenge at today’s press conference, demonstrating their full support for the OSIM 2007 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup.

To encourage wider participation (particularly amongst youths) and further promote the sport in Hong Kong, the OSIM 2007 Hong Kong ITU Triathlon Asian Cup is introducing a variety of race categories for participants of every age and fitness level to take up the challenge., from the ITU – standard Olympic Distance Triathlon to a Sprint Distance Triathlon and a Fun Triathlon. A Team Relay element has also been included to encourage the general public to take part. Teams of three people can register for the OSIM Hong Kong Triathlon with one team member responsible for each discipline (swim, bike and run). Apart from a Corporate Triathlon Challenge and School and Kids Aquathon, the organizers have also introduced a Corporate Aquathon category this year to offer a greater race variety for Corporate participants.
